Abstract
Introduction: Digital amputations in workers who suffer occupational accidents can have a great impact on manual function, on the perception of abilities, self-image and mental health, which can affect their daily occupational performance in different areas. The objective of the study was to describe the change in hand functionality and in the perception of disability in patients with digital amputation after using a 3D prosthesis during a period of 6 months. Users and methods: Analysis of cases with a pre-experimental pre-test and post-test design with a descriptive scope. Three quantitative instruments were used to evaluate the change in hand functionality, perception of disability and perception of quality of life during and after the use of the prosthesis in 8 users with digital amputation. Results: Significant changes were evidenced after the intervention. In general terms, an increase in hand functionality is observed, as well as positive changes in the perception of disability from the use of the prosthesis. Conclusions: This first scientific approach to the evaluation of the use of 3D prostheses opens new questions and generates contributions regarding the improvement of hand functionality for patients with digital amputation. The flexibility for custom-made prosthesis designs in conjunction with an analysis of the profile, occupational performance, and daily activities of these patients can improve the quality of life, the perception of disability, and increase satisfaction with their functionality.
